Algebra 2 Semester B: Constructing Functions and Statistics
Course Description
This set of modules focus on constructing and interpreting linear, exponential, and quadratic functions using statistical data. Thematic topics of these modules focus on various climate change impact and activism scenarios.
Knowledge
Teachers will learn the difference between linear, quadratic, and exponential regression fits to data
Teachers will learn that an r-squared value determines the strength of the correlation between two variables.
Skills
Teachers will learn how to construct linear, quadratic, and exponential regression models
Teachers will learn how to explain what linear, quadratic, and exponential regression models mean.
Teachers will be able to interpret an r-squared value.
Teachers will be able to interpret a statistical function within the context of the data used.
Mindsets
Teachers will believe that conceptual understanding of mathematical topics is a pre-requisite of enduring academic achievement.
Teachers will believe that introducing patterns of function behavior and statistics through inquiry and problem-solving is essential to impart a deep understanding of how functions can be transformed.
Teachers will believe that situating mathematical content within a context that is both meaningful and relevant to students is essential for students to be able to engage deeply in meaning making with content.
