Many of the most effective teachers are also very effective students who seize opportunities to read and learn about educational ideas and tools for the good of their students and classrooms. An advantage in the field of education is that, within the classroom, teaching and learning occurs daily for both students and instructors. The classroom's nature as a living laboratory enables teachers, mentors, and coaches to build communities in which they share ideas and network with each other. Within such a community, members can exchange best practices, solutions, and resources to improve classroom environments and learning outcomes for their students.
The mission of Teach for America's Virtual Secondary Mathematics team is to help establish a virtual home for a teaching and learning community for high school mathematics teachers, leaders, and coaches. We pledge to maintain a virtual community space and help facilitate the exchange of valuable ideas, strategies, questions, best practices, and resources within this community. We also pledge to offer monthly professional development modules to help extend the community's discourse and learning. The availability of a virtual community, online coaching and support, monthly resource blasts, resource library, and monthly professional development modules are offered to help facilitate the realization of truly transformational learning experiences for secondary mathematics teachers and their students.
